There's a fierce, noise-ridden performance of "Nice Wang" recorded on Julian Cope's last tour, the epic dark drone rock of GMT recorded at the Lord Clyde in Byker, and the aptly-named Kraut-esque monotone riff of "Earth 3" from the confusing Manbyrd cassette. All in all, Marzuraan do it better than anyone else going right now; be it bleak minimal droning walls of sound, controlled experiments into feedback or baws-out "post" rock, without the scene points. First time ever on CD for these early tapes by one of the most important figures in noise/electronic history, Maurizio Bianchi. These two discs were originally issued on tape in 1981 and have been bootlegged and cut into oblivion since then; this is the first time they've been made available digitally and fully uncut. Technology 1 has two long 25 min+ songs, both in a similar vein and showing MB taking a more subtle melodic approach than a lot of his early works; analogue synth and organ combine to make some truly morose but ultimately uplifting music, whilst all the time reminded of the "technology" slant via laser gun blasts, hisses and bleeps. Technology 2 is a little more caustic in its approach: there are no moments of playful organ or robotic beeps, this is a far more barren journey. It brings to mind very much a sense of alienation, like being marooned on some strange, distant planet. Almost like the nigthmare to "Technology 1"s day dream.

"The House Of Mourning" is that purifier building in which there's deep sorrow and disheartened grief due to the lack of our beloved ones ... when someone is paying a condolence visiting that house of affliction, he is reminded of his own inexorable mortality. to consider our existence in the gloomy house of mourning, ultimately and invariably culminating in death, gives us a healthy, balanced view of our fragile life. some time spent with the sadness or grieving, helps us appreciate the simple things in our troubled condition. This is not the easiest lesson to learn, but it is a necessary one because when we give sober thought to serious matters it brings good benefits later, when life seems resolutely distressing and ostinately depressing. you don't need to be a guitar player to enjoy such a release. One thing I appreciate a lot in this effort is that Mike doesn't try to show off by playing nothing but solos. On the contrary, he is a very good composer and all the songs are well balanced between melody and virtuosity. Fantasy is an instrumental album that flows easily and you will enjoy every single moment of it.

With Mike Hansen’s “At Every Point,” the Toronto-based musician steps out of his familiar role of turntablist-improviser to explore the possibilities of a purely digital medium. While each of these five compositions is clearly sequenced, the improviser’s sense of openness and play consistently comes through. The raw materials of Hansen’s compositions are the sounds of cowbells, harmonicas, Vietnamese drums, an electric guitar and amp, and of course sounds and samples captured off a set up of prepared turntables, reassembled from the kind of rugged record players kids played with in grade schools across Canada in the 1970s. The compositions of “At Every Point” avoid making a grand statement — say, a theme followed by variations — in favour of exploring textures and moods: the introspective “An Example of What I Meant,” the brash nod to the rock and roll drum solo in “Once Held a Lighter High in the Sky,” the between-waking-and-dreaming of “The Alarm Went Off Sooner than Expected,” the overt minimalism of “Tidying Up After.” Yet it is the lack of a grand statement that allows the listener to focus on the depth of each detail. -Andrew Johnson.

First "solo" album from the incomparable Mike Page, he of Fire In The Head, Sky Burial etc etc. Whilst this IS a departure from a lot of what he's known for, it would be a travesty to describe this as JUST noise. What you get here is one lengthy plunge into the depths of carefully-constructed aural extremity, utterly loud and heavy as fuck and utilising as many extremes of tone that your poor lugs can take! Sometimes it all goes a bit quiet and you think there's going to be an extended period of aural respite...until some shrieking high-end comes in and blows away any idea of shelter from the onslaught.

But it’s a great listen as you try to puzzle it out, all the while Mothra pulling the rug out from under you with their barrage of structure changes and aggro beats and riffs. Fans of Converge, Burnt By The Sun, and older The Dillinger Escape Plan should enjoy this record!

The Second release of Mysterium is pretty different from the debut. The folk elements are almost gone and now we are talking about gothic black metal… Heavy guitar riffs , lots of keyboards, lush clean vocals and of course growling black screams.

Debut album from this Germany atmospheric metal outfit. Mysterious and atompsheric Black Metal combines with gothic and folk influences (with some natural instruments) that creates an unique dark romantic and moody black metal.

This is the second album of the French Viking/Pagan Black band and Heavily in the vein of Eikskanden! More than recommended for fans of this genre!

Progressive doom metal

The newest output (their third album) by this old, brazilian Death/Doom Metal band. The Vanished Pantheon is much more chaotic and intense than any of their previous releases and with also an excellent production ,this is definitely the best album of this brazilian legend.
