R.Y.N. is the project of UK drone duo Pete Burn (Marzuraan) and Dean Glaister (Romance). With one previous 7" on Drone Records, this is their first full-length album. 6 long tracks of waving and slowly shifting massive drones, based on guitar, bass, metal and effects. The sounds here are just flooding immensely, there's nothing 'concrete' you can hold on to; the mind and body seem to be washed out slowly by these rustling feedbacking and deeply reverberating overtune-waves. The self-titled band's first release of instrumental music found its own voice already firmly established. Unlike many bands that never moved beyond post-rock or prog-rock cliches, RAIN TONGUE do not limit themselves to one particular approach, but rather embrace a wide range of possibilities to create music full of beauty, joy and conciliation. Melodic hooks abound, harmonies shine, and instrumentation is dazzling without being overdone. With the addition of occasional heavenly female and male vocalizations and melancholic accordion passages, the music has a general unfailingly romantic bittersweet air and miraculously balances between the moments of driving craftsmanship and quiet repose. All songs are composed by the band’s leader Alexei Ivanov who performed all guitars, bass, voice and most of the piano parts on this album, and confirmed his obvious songwriting talent. Also included on the disc are the compilation tracks from ‘The Absolute Supper’ (Cold Meat Industry) and Funeral Songs’ (Crowd Control Activities) and re-mixes of the two remaining tracks from the first raison d’?tre CD ‘Prospectus I’ (track re-mixes of ‘Prospectus I’ can also be found on Collective Archives’ and ‘Lost Fragments’).

There's a lot of ridiculously over-the-top Bloodyminded-esque PE going on here, delivered in a very metal style - but for me they're at their most effective on long, claustrophic passages such as "Arson" or the harrowing final track, "False". Dark, sub-industrial clanking in the background, behind walls of air-raid siren drones. Powerful. often brutal stuff, and not for the faint of heart.

This Peruvian doom rock band REINO ERMITANO consist on female vocals, Spanish lyrics and a strong "DOOM mood" from the time when the doom genre was just starting to take hold. The sound is equal parts Pentagram and Black Sabbath. There is also a distinctive progressive feel in the music that is supplied by the use of non-traditional instruments like mandolin and interesting rhythmical breakdowns within the songs themselves. Its hard to nail the whole thing, but there's everything here from Hellhound-label depression to 90s underground hard rock to pop to prog to straight metal to Renaissance madrigals to folk, with lots of epic moments of drama, all wrapped up and stamped "DOOM." The Uruguayan melodic black/death metal outfit relocated to New York City has completed the recording of the band's sophomore effort entitled "Philosopher". The band features Jose Romero (Inner Sanctum) on guitars and vocals, Maciej Kupiszewski on bass, and Alex Hernandez (Immolation) behind the drums. The album was recorded and mixed at the reputable Big Blue Meenie studios in Jersey City (NJ, USA) by Joe Pedulla and Arun Venkatesh, and mastered at Bionic Mastering in New York City by Tom Hutten. "Philosopher" is a testament to just how far the band has moved on since the time of "Eternally Dying". The musical performance achieved is stellar, as exemplified by Alex's work behind the drumkit. This, together with the sound registered at Big Blue Meenie is only overshadowed by the identity and dialectic style of musical composition.

REVELATION OF DOOM is really how Blackened Death Metal started out in the early days with VENOM, HELLHAMMER, SODOM. Hellish blasphemic brutality Witching Metal! Ugly, chaotic and heavy as fuck - a glorious return to the old school sound, not for those of you who prefer nice music.

Past members of Ocean of Sorrow are now back with a new project of their own - Revelations of Rain! Hailing from the darkest depths of Surte, Sweden, Runemagick evoke feelings of utter desolation and despair with their new album, Voyage to Desolation/Dawn of the End. Started in late 1990 and focused on playing a mid-tempo death/doom style of metal, they took inspiration from the classic death/black metal bands: Celtic Frost, Bathory, Autopsy, and Hellhammer. Chock full of heavier than thou riffage cohered with haunting leads and blackened undertones, this album brings to mind the darkness and despair of a plodding funeral procession. Crushing and deliberate at one point, moody and distant in the next, Runemagick aurally depicts the dreary murk and fog that embodies the coldest, most dimsal graveyard Sweden has to offer.

Claudio is also a memeber of HELDEN RUNE, ATOM INFANT INCUBATOR and TUNGUSKA, and this CD is a sort of soundtrack in the Goblin's style, participation between HELDEN RUNE's guitar man, Anthony Tears., together with Argento (voice of the Italian death metal band Antropofagus and the black metal band Spite Extreme Wing, both bands out on Beyond... Prod.) as experimental voices. "The Art of Scare and Sorrow" combines '70 horror movies atmospheres (Goblin, Frizzi, Simonetti) with '80 industrial sounds. A particulary intense, deep and obscure release, inspired by the cult movie "The House with Windows that Laugh" by Pupi Avati.

Filled with very cold and dark atmospheres, the perfect mixture between the high creepy tension of the previous "The Art of Scare and Sorrow" and its most freezy sonorities. A deep travel through shadows and apocalyptic landscapes
